YachtAid Global urges yachting community to help Syrian refugees in Turkey

YachtAid Global (YAG) is a registered not-for-profit organisation in the USA, which was established in 2006 and is based in San Diego.  They have projects and activity around the world involving high profile motor and sailing yachts, industry vendors, other non-profit organisations and volunteers ashore.

The 34m sailing yacht SELJM is currently in Turkey and has been an active supporter of YAG for many years in various countries whilst cruising the globe.  SELJM has brought to YAG’s attention the great need for humanitarian aid in the far reaches of Turkey where Syrian refugees are pouring across the border.

YachtAid Global is appealing to the general yachting community currently in Turkey, to rise to the challenge and help the people of Syria.   There are multiple ways to get involved from donating hard goods and funds, and by volunteering time and energy.

This week reports are that there could be as many as 200,000 Syrian refugees in Turkey in the coming months.  There is a recent dramatic spike in refugee arrivals from the trend of 400-500 per day, to a single day record of nearly 5000 within the past two weeks.

By SELJM raising the issues in Turkey, and YAG in turn broadcasting the need for help, it is hoped that it will inspire the yachting community to take action.  YAG is urging people to play their part and ask their yacht agent in Turkey how they can get involved.

YachtAid Global is dedicated to delivering humanitarian, developmental and conservation aid on board yachts to isolated as well as underprivileged coastal communities worldwide. In times of natural disasters, YachtAid Global has the ability to mobilise and shift resources quickly to provide disaster relief in ways that others have not explored.
